About The Tobey House

The Tobey House is a remarkably well-preserved first period, historic home located in downtown Sandwich. Nestled on a rolling 1.6 acre parcel with pond frontage and surrounded by conservation land that abuts the Heritage Gardens and Museum.

Built in the 17 Century (circa 1685), this 3,234 s.f. antique with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths has 5 working fireplaces, a beehive oven, several built-ins, gunstock beamed ceilings, and an amazing patio.

Construction: A classic two-room design with a central chimney.

History: It stands as a prime example of early Cape Cod settlement architecture, built by descendants of the influential Tobey family who arrived in Sandwich by the mid-1600s.

Recognition: The structure received the Sandwich Preservation Award for its meticulous and historically accurate renovations.

About Fred

Fred was born in Providence, RI, and spent his grade school years in New Jersey until his family moved to East Dennis on the Cape in his 8th grade. He attended high school at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional and graduated with a BFA in Professional Writing from Emerson College in Boston.

Always a lover of the ocean and the beach, he moved to Water Island, just off the coast of St. Thomas and lived there for a year to get that out of his system. Then it was back to Boston and reality.

In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, Fred's wife, Nikki, saw an article on Boston.com about the Tobey House being for sale. She went for a visit and fell in love. A few days later, Fred said F-it and made an offer. Offer accepted, Nikki, Fred and their son, Connor, packed up and moved in after 20 years in Wrentham, Mass. They became only the eighth family to own the Tobey House in 330 years. And so the adventure began...

About Mark

Copilot_20260703_101734.png

Mark was born and raised on Cape Cod. During his childhood, his family lived in Sandwich, Mashpee, and Falmouth. Mark has lived in Boston and Florida over the years, returning to Sandwich in 2016 with his husband, Steven. Together, they enjoy gardening, cooking, and a wildly varied appetite for television shows.

Mark loves the history and culture of Sandwich and often compares downtown Sandwich to Stars Hollow, the fictional, quaint Connecticut town where the beloved series Gilmore Girls is set.

In his spare time, Mark contemplates tough subjects like 'does food really expire on the exact date on the package?' or if Ann and Nancy Wilson really understand the lyrics to 'All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You'.
